Hellenic College and Holy Cross Cutting Of The Vasilopita
The event was a program for the cutting of the vasilopita, an annual tradition to mark the beginning of a new calendar year and semester. Remarks were given by the institution's president, Dr. Demetrius Kos, who discussed the concept of time as decay versus time as an opportunity for encounter with God, and the Dean of Holy Cross, Father Eugene Pentuk, who elaborated on the theological concept of blessing as a power from God channeled through humans, citing the miracle of the multiplication of bread. The event also included addresses from Archbishop Elpido of America and the Consul General of Greece in Boston, Mr. Simeon Teos, emphasizing unity, tradition, and moving forward with a positive spirit. Following the addresses, the cutting of the vasilopita commenced, with specific pieces allocated for the Lord, the Church, the Archbishop, Metropolitan Methodius, Metropolitan Kirilos, the Consul General, the President, various Bishops, the Board of Trustees, benefactors, alumni, deans, faculty, staff, families, and students.
