The committee discussed the successful opening of the new school year and reviewed detailed reports on class size averages, including mitigation strategies through staffing and a newly implemented dashboard. Other key topics included the re-appointment of the School Resource Officer, the Superintendent's initiative for increased visibility within schools, and the recognition of retiring staff and those reaching 25 years of service. The committee also addressed enrollment trends, retention strategies, and the status of CTE grant applications. Additionally, the committee celebrated the recognition of its Chair with the MASC Allstate School Committee Award and received updates from the business manager regarding the ongoing audit process and improvements in the payroll department.
The committee reviewed and discussed several policy updates, including a new policy concerning the Protect Act, which establishes schools as protected places regarding immigration enforcement. The subcommittee also addressed revisions to medication administration policies (JLCD and JLCDC) to align with updated state regulations and discussed the potential adoption of MASC policy templates for harassment and discrimination (AC and ACCE). Additionally, the members coordinated on ensuring current policy drafts align with recent legal counsel and ADA report recommendations.
The committee discussed the recap of the FY26 budget, focusing on audit requests, an accounting adjustment regarding a contract prepayment, and a higher volume of purchase order roll-overs compared to the previous year. The discussion transitioned to the FY27 budget planning, where members evaluated the district's instructional support and staffing allocations. The committee emphasized the need for more granular tracking of financial data, proposing the development of a monthly expenditure dashboard to better monitor actual spending against anticipated encumbrances, similar to the existing revolving funds management tool.
