Diocese of San Diego Summary
This document presents a summary of findings from diocesan consultations in the Diocese of San Diego regarding the advancement of a synodal Church that fosters co-responsibility among all faithful. It identifies structures and attitudes that promote synodality, such as diocesan leadership and existing consultative bodies, as well as impediments, including societal polarization, resistance to change, significant burdens on parish priests, insufficient formation for clergy and laity, underutilization of lay leadership, and organizational silos. The report emphasizes the necessity of intentional efforts within parishes to cultivate a culture of collaboration and listening, along with continuous formation and education for clergy and laity as key elements for successful transition to a synodal model, aiming for a more balanced distribution of workload among all church members.
